What is the GameCube component cable?
The component cable (model DOL-010) is an official Nintendo cable that allows you to connect the Nintendo GameCube to a TV with component inputs often referred to as Pr/Pb/Y or Cr/Cb/Y.
Why should I use a component cable instead of the standard composite cable?
Component splits the video signal into three separate colour channels (red, blue, and green). This results in a sharper image with less noise than through the yellow composite plug, where all the picture information is transmitted through a single wire.
Do I still need the regular AV cable for the GameCube?
Yes, but only for the audio. The red and white RCA connectors of the included composite cable provide the stereo audio while the component cable is solely responsible for the picture.

Why was the component cable never officially sold in Europe? When the GameCube was released in Europe (May 2002), very few European televisions had a component input. Therefore, Nintendo only released the cable in the United States and Japan, where component was indeed common at the time.
